The purpose of doing this is hard to pin down, mostly it's a way for me to share something with people so that my writing doesn't only reside on a piece of paper in my room, and sometimes so that I can just express my views on things.
A 'platform for my writing'. Blogs are very popular these days and cater for everyone's interest, no matter how unique! I've just done a quick search and found a blog full of hungover owls! Now I'm starting to feel unoriginal! (http://hungoverowls.tumblr.com)
Pardon the pun in the name, I might change it if something better pops up. For now it shall remain folked up!
I enjoy music and writing, among other things, which may make an appearance on here. So it feels like a step in the right direction to start writing about music.
The music mentioned will be what I'm liking and will cover different genres. Sorry if you came sniffing on the trail of a folk extravaganza, as this won't be limited to folk, but there will be plenty of it!
Anyway, less talk (or write) and more music...
Here are some things that I'm liking, and I hope you will too.
Turn it up, sit/lie down and lets make time for music.
I don't want to sound pretentious, but I was listening to Lauren Laverne's show yesterday on BBC Radio 6music and Alain de Botton was a guest. I agree with what he said, that music can articulate themes that it's possible for everybody to connect to, and the beauty is that it's not intellectually, but intuitively that people connect to it.
*Headphones/speakers recommended, better sound! But do as you will.
**Blog may improve with consumption of alcohol.
Let's begin with the wonderful song that was my introduction to The Low Anthem.
I love the brass, the sound of the pump organ, the guitar tone..
I was reading 'On the Road' by Jack Kerouac when I first saw this. The singer Ben Knox Miller seemed like a character that had leaped from the pages of the book!
Righty ho, up next is some Dirty Three
Here's a link to a version that I enjoy. The live motel room version with Nick Cave! ...
Here it is : http://pitchfork.com/tv/surveillance/77-atp-surveillance/2284-nick-cave-and-the-dirty-three-sea-above-sky-below/
Notice how the drummer changes from brushes->hotrods->sticks, in one song!
I'd like to pick up the pace a bit now. 3 minutes intro on this one!
Loves me some Alabama Shakes.
Two songs left now. Here's the haunting 'Blues Run The Game' By Jackson C Frank. This has been covered recently by Laura Marling. I encourage you to check it out!
And finally, a song that I discovered a few weeks ago and couldn't believe I hadn't heard it sooner.
'My mind's distracted and diffused.
My thoughts are many miles away.
They lie with you when you're asleep,
and kiss you when you start your day.'
Actually I'm going to chuck in one more. As it's the end of the post, but the beginning of the blog, I thought that this deserved a spin.
Thank you for reading and listening. I suppose this was just a list of songs I like!
I'll try to be more inventive next time.
Hope you enjoyed the music.
